Viet Nam is showering naked in the rain with your parents yelling and chasing after you trying to bring you home. Viet Nam is getting bribe with candy by grandpa to go to church. Viet Nam is a 3 miles walk everyday to school. Viet Nam is eating grandma’s home grown bananas and drinking herbal tea. Viet Nam is playing marble behind your house with your neighbors until dark. Viet Nam is sleeping with your pet dog, ToTo, and then getting yell by mom later because you stink. Viet Nam is holding hands with your sister so you won’t get lost. Viet Nam is smelling an empty Hersey’s box after the contents have been devour. Viet Nam is riding with dad on a moped and honking for fun the whole way home. Viet Nam is saving your breakfast money to go play Nintendo. Viet Nam is barefoot on the streets. Viet Nam is catching crikets in the raining seasons. Viet Nam is eating Moon Cakes that dad bought. Viet Nam is a younger, more energetic grandpa who teaches you how to play chess, lets you cheat, and gives you a treat when you win. Viet Nam is being bribe by your sister’s boyfriend to not tell mom they went out. Viet Nam is sniffing your mom’s clothes when she goes on a trip and you miss her. Viet Nam is my childhood. Viet Nam is my family, a family that I haven’t had a chance to visit for 14 years.
I landed on the north and made my way south through the country. In this trip I made it to Ha Noi, Ha Long, Hue, Da Nang, Sai Gon, Mui Ne, and Phu Quoc. I’ve seen numerous sights, but the best one by far is the sight of my grandma.



Ha Long bay, i cruised around on a boat for 2 days and 1 night.

You peel off the burnt skin, warp the white meat with herbs grown in the garden, and eat with ground fresh peppers also homegrown.


We do have a shower in the house, but whats the fun in that?
